Moran Applauds Bostic Ruling

Representative Jim Moran, Northern Virginia Democrat, Ranking Member on the House Appropriations Interior Subcommittee and senior member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, released the following statement on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia's decision in Bostic v. Rainey ruling that Virginia's same-sex marriage ban is unconstitutional:

"Today we've shown that Virginia really is for lovers. It wasn't long ago that interracial couples were barred from wedding. This ruling follows the logic that marriage shouldn't be restricted based on gender, any more than it should be restricted based on a person's skin color. What matters is the loving commitment two people are willing to make to one another. It's a proud day to be a Virginian."
